Sundays in October I’m watching horror movies with my dad. Today’s theme was foreign films.
Today’s first feature was The Babadook (out of Australia) which I will give a rating ofย ๐ป๐ป๐ป๐ปย (4 ghosts out of 5.) A mother struggles with grief while her and her son are being stalked by a mysterious, terrifying entity. It was pretty chillingly scary and really beautifully done. It started slow though and the pacing seemed a little off.
And second up was an import from Korea calledย Train to Busan which I will give a rating ofย ๐๐๐๐๐ย (5 plastic pumpkins out of 5). A father tries to reconnect with his estranged school aged daughter by bringing her to visit her mother by train. They soon find themselves trapped in a speeding train along with rabid scores of zombies where they must work together to make it to Busan. It’s the zombie movie equivalent of Snakes on a Plane (without the kitsch). All of the zombie movie tropes were used in the best way along with some new ones (I’m not saying there’s a zombie ramp, but there’s a zombie ramp).
